Northwood was built in 1883 and we have always sought to retain the traditional character of this impressive Victorian building.

A natural feature of Northwood is a relaxed comfortable and homely environment that many larger modern and purpose built care homes find it difficult to create. We also have an 8-person passenger lift, a stairlift, four lounge areas and two dining areas.

Up to 28 residents can be accommodated in generously sized, single and en-suite bedrooms with 3 of our rooms also registered to offer the option of companion rooms for the occasions when couples or friends wish to share.

Our in house large screen cinema and sound system is very popular and to encourage independence we recently installed a mini kitchen in our main dining room area for residents and their visitors to make their own drinks and snacks. We also have a specially adapted and equipped computer system and desk area to encourage use by residents for communicating with relatives and friends or for a spot of 'surfing' the web.

Our nurse call system is easy to use and can only be reset at the room of the person requesting assistance. There are three specially adapted bathrooms with specialised assisted bathing systems, each different to offer alternatives that suit all preferences. We also have 3 state of the art electronic profiling beds with special pressure relief mattresses and intend to invest in a further 3 of these beds in the near future. These are an invaluable aid when caring for people with very limited mobilty or painful and chronic conditions or who are at risk of developing pressure sores.
