'' Northwood is full of warmth and amazing people, Eileen and her team are an inspiration to us all '' It was once traditional that care could be provided by the family but today's social and economic pressures often mean this is not possible or practical or not always the preference of the person who requires care. When a need for residential or nursing care does arise it can be a quite traumatic and emotive time for everyone involved. This is often met with a degree of reluctance and any feelings of guilt or uncertainty are understandable and perhaps inevitable. Our aim is to help at a time when you will have many questions and need straightforward and honest advice. Family owned and managed for 28 years Northwood offers security, warmth, peace of mind and the companionship of like-minded people with excellent food, entertainments and beneficial activities and all within a welcoming and very homely environment. We always consider the emotional, social, psychological, physical and spiritual needs of the individual. A visit to Northwood can help overcome some misconceptions and we realise a shared environment may not be the same as living at home but rest assured that we do try to make Northwood the next best thing. Your choice and preference is a very important part of this decision as a need to move again later can prove very traumatic. At Northwood we have trained nursing staff on duty 24 hours per day and no local authority owned home can offer this service or advantage which removes the need to move if care needs ever change to involve a nursing care requirement. No matter how care would be funded, even if fully supported by a local authority, the choice of care home is entirely yours as the local authority must operate under a government choice directive and must never limit your choice only to local authority owned care homes. We are also proud of our 'Enhanced Quality Award', the highest award possible under the Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council quality assurance scheme.
